The study demonstrates that continuous DVC® home-cage monitoring can quantify urination through precise bedding-moisture dynamics, generating a noninvasive Polyuria Index that shows a strong correlation with hyperglycemia in mouse models of diabetes. This digital biomarker enables earlier and more reliable detection of disease onset, clearer tracking of progression and treatment response, and significantly reduces animal stress by eliminating handling and blood sampling. The findings highlight a major advance for metabolic research, animal welfare and the integration of validated digital biomarkers into preclinical studies.
