This real-time insight let them stretch cage-change intervals from the usual 2 weeks to 3–6 weeks without raising ammonia or CO₂ or altering growth and circadian rhythms.
The switch cut overall cage changes by 65–70%, trimming labour, wash cycles and bedding; other digital-vivarium trials report comparable 40–60% savings.
